The Edo State Government has officially recognized and presented instruments of office to several new traditional rulers across the state, signaling a renewed commitment to traditional institutions and community leadership. The announcements, made public today, involve appointments in Okpella, Okhuesan, and Onogholo.
According to a statement released by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq., His Royal Majesty, Michael Eshioronoya Olorunfemi Sado, is now officially recognized as the Okuokpellagbe of Okpella in Etsako East Local Government Area. He received his Staff of Office and letter of appointment in a ceremony affirming his role as the traditional leader of the community.

The most significant development involves Okhuesan in Esan South East Local Government Area. The Edo State Executive Council has revoked the appointment of Zaiki Ehi-Douglas Lucky Ehidiamen as the Onojie of Okhuesan. Zaiki Ehidiamen had been serving as Regent for the past eighteen years, appointed due to the age limitation of the rightful heir at the time.
“The revocation is premised on the expiration of his Regency, which lasted for eighteen (18) years,” stated Umar Musa Ikhilor.
Following the revocation, the government has presented a Staff of Office and letter of appointment to HRH. Lucky Ehichioya Imhadojiemu as the Onojie of Okhuesan, effective April 30th, 2025. Ehichioya Imhadojiemu, having reached the age of majority, now assumes his rightful position as the traditional leader of Okhuesan.
Further reinforcing the administration’s support for traditional leadership, HRH. Ehinomen Aigbojie has also received a Staff of Office and letter of appointment as the new Onojie of Onogholo in Esan South East Local Government Area.
“Government congratulates the newly appointed Rulers and enjoin them to live above board to ensure that the much-needed peace and prosperity of their subjects in the respective communities is achieved,” concluded the statement from the Secretary to the State Government. The government hopes these new appointments will usher in an era of stability and progress for the communities under their leadership.
