The Head of Service of Edo State, Dr. Anthony Okungbowa, has proudly declared that Edo State now ranks as the leading state in e-governance across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Dr. Okungbowa made the declaration on Monday while addressing Permanent Secretaries, Directors, and other members of staff of the Edo Civil Service during a special homecoming reception organised in his honour in Benin City.
The event celebrated his recent receipt of the prestigious Nigerian Public Service Award presented by the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) in recognition of outstanding institutional leadership and public service reforms.
Expressing deep appreciation for the honour, Okungbowa dedicated the award to Governor Monday Okpebholo, describing it as a testament to the governor’s strong commitment to transforming the civil service and driving excellence in governance.
“This recognition is not only the result of years of hard work but also a reflection of our governor’s commitment and passion for excellence in the civil service,” he said. “We went to Abuja and returned with the top award in Institutional Leadership and Public Service Reforms.”
He noted that the achievement was particularly significant because the BPSR serves as the apex reform body in the country. “For the bureau to recognise Edo means our public service is among the best in Nigeria,” Okungbowa added.
The Head of Service described the award as both a motivation and a call to action, urging civil servants to redouble their efforts in service delivery and innovation as the state continues its transformation agenda.
He also commended Governor Okpebholo for creating an enabling environment that has elevated the Edo Civil Service to national prominence.
Speaking on behalf of Permanent Secretaries, Directors, and other staff, Dr. Efosa Aisien of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation congratulated Okungbowa and described the award as a national validation of the reforms and dedication within the Edo civil service.
In a goodwill message, Mr. Nyamali Joseph praised the Head of Service as an exceptional public servant who has consistently displayed professionalism, knowledge, and excellence in both local and international engagements.
The reception highlighted the remarkable progress recorded by the Edo State Civil Service under the current administration and reinforced the state’s position as a pacesetter in digital governance and public service innovation in Nigeria.
