Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has expressed strong confidence in the quality of the ongoing reconstruction of the Benin-Sapele road, assuring residents that the concrete pavement being used will serve the state for up to 80 years with minimal major maintenance.
The governor gave this assurance shortly after personally inspecting the project on Thursday in Benin.
Okpebholo described the work as a high-standard job, attributing the impressive progress to the support of President Bola Tinubu. “It’s a quality job and everything is going on well. There is nothing else to say but to thank President Bola Tinubu for providing the funds,” he said.
He noted that the current level of infrastructure development across Edo is largely due to the president’s commitment and tireless efforts. The governor highlighted the use of concrete pavement, describing it as expensive but durable and long-lasting.
Residents along the axis trooped out in large numbers to welcome the governor, showering him with praises for the transformation of the once-troublesome road. Many commended the project for significantly reducing traffic congestion and improving travel conditions.
One resident, Mrs. Pat Ogie, said the construction has greatly eased the suffering of road users. “There used to be heavy gridlock on this road but the Okpebholo administration has now made it a thing of the past. God will bless our governor for us,” she remarked.
Another resident, Mrs. Justina Osaghae, echoed similar sentiments, describing the quality of the road as highly commendable and expressing appreciation for the governor’s developmental strides.
The Site Engineer, Mr. Femi Fatola, revealed that the 10-kilometre road project has reached an advanced stage, with 4.5 kilometres already cast in concrete.
