Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, arrived in Benin City on Thursday for a one-day official visit aimed at inaugurating 50 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses and empowering 5,000 women in Edo State.
Her aircraft touched down at the Benin Airport at about 11:18 a.m. She was warmly received by Governor Monday Okpebholo, his Kogi State counterpart, Governor Ahmed Ododo, the wife of the Edo governor, traditional rulers, All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and other dignitaries.
A cultural troupe and party supporters dressed in colourful attire also joined in the reception.
Speaking briefly on her arrival, the First Lady expressed delight at the warm welcome and described the people of Edo as hospitable. “The Edo people are known for their hospitality, and I’m happy to be here,” she said. She also conveyed the greetings of President Bola Tinubu to the people of the state.
The visit will feature the official inauguration of 50 CNG buses procured by the Okpebholo administration and an empowerment programme for 5,000 women. Both events are scheduled to hold at the Garrick Memorial on Ekehuan Road, Benin City.
Senator Tinubu is also expected to pay a courtesy visit to the palace of the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II.
She was accompanied on the trip by ministers, APC chieftains, business leaders and other dignitaries.
