Draws for Betsy Obaseki Women Football (BOWFT) Tournament hold tomorrow
The Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament (BOWFT) draws hold in Benin City, Edo State. Tomorrow, the draws for this thrilling event will take place, setting the stage for an unforgettable football extravaganza.
The highly anticipated draws will be held at the prestigious New Festival Hall in the heart of Benin City, the capital of Edo State.
A total of 13 fierce female football teams will compete for glory in this year’s edition of the annual tournament. From Wednesday, September 7, 2022, to Saturday, September 17, 2022, these teams will battle it out on the field, showcasing their skills and determination to emerge victorious.
But that’s not all – the stakes are high! The winners of the tournament, which aligns with the government’s campaign against drug abuse, will be rewarded handsomely. The champion team will be rewarded with a whopping N5 million in cash, while the first and second runners-up will secure cash rewards of N2.5 million and N1.5 million respectively.
Crusoe Osagie, Chairman of the BOWFT Media and Communications Sub-Committee, expressed his excitement about the draws, which will determine the groups that each participating team will be placed in.
The event promises to be a spectacle, with critical stakeholders from Nigeria’s women’s football industry and the wider sporting community gracing the occasion.
Ahead of the grand event, Edo First Lady, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, conducted an inspection of the facilities and expressed her confidence in the successful hosting of the tournament. She emphasized that the players are ready to surpass their previous performances, aiming to elevate the competition to even greater heights.
Highlighting the tournament’s significance, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki noted that it extends beyond football. “The first edition garnered international recognition from FIFA and focused on combating human trafficking. This year, the event will pivot its attention to the critical issue of drug abuse in Nigeria. In addition to the thrilling matches on the field, discussions on this topic will be held, providing an opportunity for young girls and secondary school students to engage in meaningful interactions.” she said.
