Edo sets to host maiden tech conference, partners GIZ, Google, Glo, Songhai

The first Edo Innovates Tech Conference (#EITC2022), with the theme “Innovation, Solutions and Talent; Driving the Economies of the Future,” will be hosted by the Edo State Government through the state’s skills development agency, Edojobs.

Google Developers Group, Globacom Limited, Songhai Labs, and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit, or GIZ, are implementing the conference in collaboration with the German government.

The conference will take place from November 29 to December 3, 2022, in Benin City, Edo State, at the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub and Sound Stage.

According to the organisers, registration to attend the #EITC2022 is currently ongoing on the official website www.edotechconference.com

The five-day event is being hosted by the State Governor, His Excellency Governor Godwin Obaseki. It will include exciting activities such as networking, start-up exhibitions, hackathons, breakout training sessions, virtual tech job fairs, and panel discussions with industry experts.

The creation of Edo Innovates in 2018 and Edo Tech Park, where at least 15,000 software engineers are being trained, are the results of the state government’s keen focus on technology and innovation. Over 33,000 youths have received training in various fields related to data science, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing.

In addition to strengthening the Nigerian tech ecosystem and placing Edo at the center of fostering public-private partnerships within the tech space, the #EITC2022 will give tech talent and start-ups a safe platform to network and collaborate, build local solutions within their environment, showcase their skills, and expand their horizons.

At the conference, start-ups would also have the opportunity to network with possible investors and partners. There would be a hackathon with a prize pool of N2,000,000, and a business pitch competition with three distinct categories—agriculture, education, and healthcare—with a prize pool of N3,000,000.
