Governor Obaseki approves 13th-month Salary for Edo workers
In a recent interaction at the Sir Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub in Benin City, Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, announced his approval for the disbursement of a 13th-month salary to the state’s civil and public servants. This announcement was made during a meeting with workers from levels 8 to 17.
Governor Obaseki expressed his gratitude to the workers for their unwavering support over the past six years. He emphasized the importance of their role in the state’s development, stating, “You have asked for a 13th-month salary to be paid to you in December. We will do it but between now and December, how will you pay the state government back?”
He continued, “I am here today to say thank you for your support. When I look back, I know I have people. You have supported me for the past six and a half years.” He also thanked them for their participation in the last election, which he believes has helped sustain the state’s developmental strides.
The governor further highlighted the importance of the workers’ role in the state’s progress, saying, “All that I have done in the last six and a half years is put you where you really should belong because you are the heart and the engine of Edo State.”
Governor Obaseki also shared his vision for the state, emphasizing the need for sustainable reforms and active participation from the workers. He said, “Our focus is on how to ensure the sustainability of the reforms we have embarked on and you need to play an active part in this journey. We want Edo to be a model for the nation and give the nation hope.”
In terms of infrastructural development, Governor Obaseki reassured the workers about the progress of the Benin River Port project. He expressed optimism that work on the port would commence within the next nine to twelve months, which he believes will be a game changer for the state.
Edionwe Joel, the Permanent Secretary of the Edo State Ministry of Environment and Sustainability, expressed his gratitude to the governor for his commitment to the welfare of the workers and assured him of their continued support.
