Former Edo State Commissioner for Tourism, Art and Culture, Osaze Osemwingie-Ero, Announces Prisoner Release Initiative

On the one-year anniversary of his release from Italian custody, the former Edo Commissioner for Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Diaspora Affairs, Mr. Osaze Osemwingie-Ero has launched an initiative to free Edo State prisoners incarcerated for minor offenses.

He aims to raise ₦2 million to release at least 20 citizens unable to pay fines, reuniting them with their families.

During his visit to the Comptroller of Correctional Services, he discovered prisoners held for non-payment of fines as low as ₦50,000, with sentences up to three years. This experience resonates with his own unjust ordeal in Italy.

To facilitate their release, prisoners must pledge to be law-abiding citizens. Partnering with government agencies and NGOs, Mr. Osemwingie-Ero will ensure gainful employment and reintegration into society.

He expressed gratitude to the people of Edo State for their support and prayers, which secured his freedom. He advocates for justice for innocent Nigerians in prisons nationwide, urging Edo citizens to join his campaign.
