Rotary Club of Auchi promises 10 community projects in one year
The Auchi Metropolitan Rotary Club, under District 9141, has outlined a plan to complete and inaugurate ten community service projects within the next year.
This announcement was made by the newly elected president, Comrade Victor Okhaimo, during his inauguration as the club’s 18th president in Auchi.
Comrade Okhaimo detailed the ten community service projects, which include the construction of a borehole, a public toilet, the renovation of primary and secondary schools, the provision of a one-year scholarship for 15 needy students, and the donation of books and other educational materials to schools.
Additional projects include providing micro-credit/grants to widows and female entrepreneurs, installing speed limit/traffic signs along major roads in Auchi and surrounding areas, and constructing grandfather clocks at key junctions in the area.
“My intention is to initiate, complete, and commission ten community service projects throughout this Rotary year,” Okhaimo stated.
He further noted that Auchi, being one of the fastest-growing towns in Nigeria, necessitates the club’s growth in line with this trend.
The president emphasized the importance of these projects, stating that many community members rely solely on Rotary. He assured that his leadership would positively impact the community during his tenure.
“Let’s all depart here prepared to improve their lives in the small ways we can. As Rotarians, let’s support our communities with renewed enthusiasm, embodying Rotary’s legacy of ‘Service Above Self’,” he said.
He also mentioned that one of the objectives is to localize the club and ensure its leadership evolves around members living within the town and its surroundings, which would undoubtedly enhance the club’s membership strength and fortunes.
“I am genuinely proud to be a Rotarian and indeed very honored and humbled to be elected the 18th president of the Rotary Club of Auchi Metropolitan for the 2023/2024 Rotary year. With the assistance and support of my highly experienced board members and fellow club members, I will strive to meet the expectations we have all collectively set for ourselves,” he said.
The outgoing president, Mr. Lucky Idahosa, expressed gratitude to members for their support during his tenure and encouraged Rotarians to support the new executive committee.
“I want to express my deepest gratitude to all Rotarians, especially my Rotary leaders who supported me and my team this Rotary year. Our success story would not have been possible without your significant contribution,” Idahosa said.
The event’s highlight was the induction of board directors, new members, and the presentation of humanitarian awards to the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu, Prof. Medina Kadiri, Dr. Sadiq Ikharo, and Dr. Sunny Eshiotse.
Earlier, the club visited the Itsoghena Orphanage Home, where they donated food items, educational, and clothing materials worth thousands of naira to the children of the home.
