We wanted to assassinate Apostle Johnson Suleman – Suspect confesses

In a startling turn of events, Yusuf Ismael Isah, a suspect linked to the assault on Apostle Johnson Suleman, has admitted his involvement in the crime. The senior pastor and General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide, Apostle Johnson Suleman, was the target of a violent attack nine months ago. The latest breakthrough in this case is the arrest of Yusuf Isah, a 32-year-old man who has confessed to being one of the attackers.

Back in October 2022, the pastor’s convoy fell into a deadly ambush set by armed individuals, leading to the unfortunate loss of six lives, including those of three police officers. Isah, a plumber from Okene, Kogi State, disclosed to the media that the group’s intent was to assassinate the pastor.

Isah revealed that he became part of the brutal gang in 2021, after his release from Olokuta Correctional Centre. He had been detained there since 2019 due to his alleged involvement in armed robbery. He stated, “The plan of our gang on October 21, 2022, was to forcefully kidnap the Apostle and collect a huge ransom.”

He went on to explain that they had been monitoring the Apostle for several days and had placed an informant on the Benin – Auchi express road to provide real-time updates on his movements on the day of the attack.

“I was the one who first opened fire on the convoy upon its approach but he managed to escape the attack. The attack was actually to assassinate him, although I was not part of the meeting. Ilyasu and two other people were part of that meeting.”

In Abuja, the Force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, introduced Isah to the media. The Intelligence Rapid Team (IRT) apprehended Isah after an exhaustive investigation. Isah, who resides at Agbaraoluwa Phase 2 Ijoka, Akure, Ondo State, was arrested, and a substantial arsenal of weapons was found at his residence. This included five Ak47 rifles, two K2 Assault rifles, 180 live ammunition, and four suspected improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

Adejobi announced that the investigation had confirmed Isah as a member of the seven-man gang responsible for the attack on the Apostle’s convoy. Some of the rifles in his possession were identified as those taken from the three police officers killed during the October 21, 2022 attack. The police are currently making efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects who are still at large.
