UNEME-AKIOSU GETS A NEW MONARCH by Albert Afeso Akanbi

The Uneme Akiosu community in Akoko-Edo LGA of Edo State today celebrated the coronation of their new king, Oba Frederick Lucky Iyogun, Iyogu 11.

The ceremony was marked by the presence of 14 kings from across the LGA, symbolizing the collective joy of the region.

This historic event brought an end to a 66-year interregnum that followed the passing of the previous monarch, Iyogu I.

The people of Uneme Akiosu, the kingmakers, and the Edo State government were commended for their roles in resolving this long-standing impasse.

During the festivities, the newly crowned Oba Iyogu II expressed his gratitude to Governor Godwin Obaseki for his pivotal role in the succession process.
In recognition of the governor’s contributions, he was bestowed with the chieftaincy title “Lover of the People.”
Similarly, the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs was honoured with a chieftaincy title for his support for the process.

Speaking on behalf of the attending monarchs, the Ima of Somorika, Alhaji Sule Idaiye pledged the Council of Traditional Rulers’ support to the new king, signifying a unified front among the region’s leadership.
