Fulfill Your Campaign Promises, Oba of Benin Tells Edo Governor-Elect

The Oba of Benin, Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, has called on Edo State governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to fulfill his campaign promises, emphasizing that divine guidance will support him in his role.

Oba Ewuare II offered this counsel during a visit by the governor-elect and his deputy, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, to the royal palace in Benin City.

The governor-elect and his deputy, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, presented their Certificates of Return issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of their swearing-in on November 12th, 2024. Okpebholo thanked the monarch for his prayers and acknowledged the palace’s openness.

A statement from the Chief Press Secretary to the monarch, Osaigbovo Iguobaro, quoted Oba Ewuare II expressing confidence in Okpebholo’s ability to deliver good governance. He thanked God, his ancestors, security agencies, and President Bola Tinubu for ensuring a peaceful election on September 21, 2024.

“God works mysteriously. As you have said to me, remember this palace is open to you.

“You will do your best to carry out the promises you made during your campaigns, more to the admiration of all. More blessings will come,” Oba Ewuare II stated.

The Oba also pledged to continue praying for the success of the incoming administration, particularly as the Emoro (New Yam) festival and his 8th Coronation Anniversary approach.

The visit was accompanied by leaders of the All Progressives Congress Campaign Council, including Senator Adams Oshiomhole and Comrade Philip Shaibu. Chief Ozigbo Esere, the Osuma of Benin, offered prayers for the newly elected leaders.
