The Akoko-Edo Local Government Council, led by Rt Hon Alabi Bliss Oshionogue, has initiated an emergency rehabilitation project on the heavily deteriorated Auchi-Sasaro expressway. The intervention aims to alleviate the suffering of motorists and commuters navigating the vital artery within the local government area.
Council Chairman Oshionogue expressed deep concern over the historical neglect of the federal road by previous local administrations. He emphasized the urgent need for repairs, citing the project’s alignment with Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo’s “SHINE AGENDA,” which prioritizes grassroots governance and the delivery of tangible benefits to the people.
“This rehabilitation work is going to be a continuous exercise,” Oshionogue stated, adding that the initiative will extend to the Ibillo axis of the road, which he described as being in a state of severe disrepair.
“As a responsive government, it is incumbent on us to listen to the yearnings of our people rather than dwell on rhetoric, which has become the norm. For me, this is participatory democracy,” he noted, highlighting the council’s commitment to addressing the needs of its constituents.
Oshionogue further asserted that Edo State and the Akoko-Edo Local Government Area have never experienced such favorable conditions. He appealed to the public to support Governor Monday Okpebholo, expressing confidence that continued support would facilitate the implementation of even more people-oriented projects across the state. The rehabilitation project is expected to provide significant relief to travelers and contribute to improved economic activity within the region.
