The Egbetua Community in Ososo, Akoko Edo Local Government Area, was thrown into mourning in the early hours of today as news filtered in that its Head Chief, IDDU OREME, Chief Peter Momoh had died in mysterious circumstances in Okpella while on a business trip.
According to reports, the deceased whose community hosts the BUA Cement Plant had travelled to Okpella for the signing of an outsourced contract for the employment of workers into the facility.
Dependable sources told Akoko-Edo Newspaper that the said contract had been mired in controversy since last year following a dispute between two contending parties over who should be awarded the contract.
While the group led by the late Chief Momoh preferred that the said contract be jointly managed by the three kindreds that make up Egbetua, the other preferred a solo management that would enable them to pay royalty to the community
The dispute reportedly took a disconcerting twist on December 26 2025, when it was escalated at the annual community general meeting. A consent document allegedly signed by one of the parties at the meeting was rejected by the people as it was claimed to have been signed under duress.
As at the time of Chief Momoh’s sudden death, the two warring parties had reportedly set up a joint project company for the management of the business. Chief IDDU OREME Peter Momoh was found dead in questionable circumstances in his hotel room hours after he checked-in unaccompanied.
Our sources hinted that the Police which has moved the body of the late community leader to a morgue at Auchi has since commenced investigation.
