Obaseki seeks education bond to transform Edo schools

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has suggested issuing an education bond to raise funds for the urgent improvement of the State’s education sector.

He made the suggestion at a 2-day Leadership Retreat for heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in Benin City, the State capital, on Tuesday, September 13, 2022. The theme of the retreat was: “Expanding Frontiers, Succeeding Together”.

Obaseki expressed his concern about the state of some schools in the State and the limited resources available to the government to upgrade them. He said: “We need a marshall plan to invest heavily in education for the next five years. We are not doing enough schools and if we keep going like this, we will face a crisis.”

“We need to build schools and divert funds from other projects to education. These children will build roads when we have given them quality education.

“Let us get the money from the budget; we have to make education appealing in Edo. I don’t mind issuing an education bond to finance education and I don’t mind travelling around the world to ask Edo people to support us so that we can build more schools. In my enlightened self interest I will continue to invest in education.”
