The newly elected chairmen of Edo State’s 18 local government areas have collectively pledged to confront insecurity head-on while focusing on critical areas such as infrastructure development, healthcare delivery, and quality education at the grassroots level.
The chairmen made these commitments on Monday in Benin shortly after receiving their Certificates of Return from the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) at the commission’s headquarters.
Robert Akande, Chairman-elect of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, described his victory as a broad mandate to serve all residents. He promised to make security a cornerstone of his administration by collaborating with security agencies, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders to drastically reduce criminal activities in the area.
Akande also vowed to rehabilitate dilapidated schools, health facilities, court buildings, and other essential public infrastructure. “I am now the chairman-elect for the entire Akoko-Edo local government area, not just the APC. We are going to bring our people together, irrespective of political differences, and ensure they enjoy the dividends of democracy,” he stated.
In a similar vein, Romeo Alaoye, Chairman-elect of Etsako West Local Government Area, assured residents of prudent management of public funds. His administration, he said, would work closely with the state government to strengthen security, improve healthcare services, and pay greater attention to basic education, which he described as the foundation for every child’s future.
“ We are going to make sure taxpayers’ money is used for the benefit of our people. We will work with the state government to improve security, strengthen healthcare and give more attention to basic education because that is where every child’s future begins,” Alaoye affirmed.
While presenting the certificates, EDSIEC Chairman Mr. Jonathan Aifuobhokhan congratulated the newly elected officials and reminded them of the heavy responsibility that comes with their mandate. He urged them to lead with dedication, accountability, and strict adherence to democratic principles.
