Akoko-Edo NYSC CDS group visit Ikpeshi Grammar School

As part of efforts to sensitize students in Akoko-Edo Local Government, the NYSC Education CDS group has embarked on a familiarization tour to Ikpeshi Grammar School to educate and sensitize students on various topics such as personal hygiene, respect for elders, importance of education and self development, career choice and counselling and lastly sexual and reproductive health.

The sensitization exercise which lasted for two hours saw David Joy, Obende Joy and a host of others sensitizing students in the school on modes of behavior and general conduct.

Joy David who spoke on personal hygiene said that it is important for students to live in a clean environment by ensuring they wash their hands, clothes, take their bath twice daily, and sanitize their toilets. She also noted that it is important for people to cover their nose with tissue paper while coughing and sneezing stating that cleaniness is next to Godliness.

Joy Obende who was the second speaker harped on the need for students to show respect to the elderly and be patient with them in their quest for clarification on issues not initially known to them.

On her part, the president of the community development service (CDS) group Ogooluwa Zacheaus a graduate of animal physiology from Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta disclosed that “education is the act of learning skills and acquiring knowledge towards self development and empowerment ”.

Also speaking Ayeni Joy, a graduate of English and Literary studies held that the support provided by career counselors will help the students manage their journey through life, noting counselors help pupils, students, and professionals understand their career opportunities and opinions available. She averred that passion, potential, purpose and pursuits are the four cardinal components in choosing career opportunities.

The last speaker Mr Ubah Anthony, who posited his career advice on sexual and reproductive health, stated that sexual and reproductive health is the state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and absence of disease in all matters related to reproductive system.

He also noted that sexual health is having a responsible and safe sex life that is free from diseases, disability, and unnecessary pains or risk of death.

In his remarks, the principal of Ikpeshi Grammar School, Mr Omoluabi Patrick Olu, noted that the move by the Corps was outstanding and that the students of the school have benefited immensely from the various lectures given by the CDS group.
