Edo’s Special Security Squad announced the arrest of nine individuals suspected of cult membership during a pre-dawn operation in Iguoshodin N’Ikpemaba, Ovia North East Local Government Area.
Authorities say the action was triggered by tip-offs and an urgent distress call from residents who reported terrorizing activities.
Coordinator Idemudia Noah revealed that officers recovered two Beretta handguns, two shortened double-barrel shotguns, and live AK-47 ammunition from a property linked to Mr. Osazuwa Igbineweka, also known as the Okaighele of Omi—who had been declared wanted by the police.
Initial inquiries suggest the detainees belong to the Eiye confraternity, a group notorious for violent altercations and criminal ventures across various communities in Edo.
Noah emphasized that the swift intervention has restored public confidence in the security agencies’ ability to protect locals.
Reiterating the squad’s dedication under “Operation Flush Out Cultists and Kidnappers,” he pledged ongoing collaboration with community stakeholders to uproot cultism, kidnapping rings, and other violent crimes throughout the state.
