A significant breakthrough in an ongoing kidnapping and murder investigation originating in Edo State has been announced by the Ogun State Police Command.
Two suspects, believed to be connected to the heinous crime, were successfully apprehended in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, through a meticulously executed intelligence-driven operation.
DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed the arrests in a statement released on Saturday from Abeokuta. The diligent efforts of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit led to the apprehension of the suspects in the Atiba area of Ijebu-Ode.
This development builds upon an earlier statement issued on June 4th, which detailed the initial arrest of suspects by personnel of the Nigeria Forest Security Service. Preliminary findings from the Ogun Police investigation strongly suggest that the newly arrested individuals are directly implicated in the kidnapping and murder case reported in the Okada area of Edo State.
Further intelligence gathered by the Command indicates that these suspects are alleged members of a seven-man syndicate believed to be responsible for the incident under investigation. During the course of the operation, law enforcement recovered crucial evidence, including one police camouflage uniform and three mobile phones from the suspects.
DSP Babaseyi emphasized that while the alleged offenses were committed outside the jurisdiction of Ogun State, the suspects and the recovered exhibits will be promptly transferred to the Edo State Police Command. This will facilitate further investigation and ensure that appropriate legal actions are pursued.
Mr. Bode Ojajuni, the Commissioner of Police for Ogun State, has lauded the professionalism and unwavering diligence displayed by the operatives involved in this critical investigation. He reiterated the command’s firm resolve to prevent Ogun State from becoming a haven or transit point for criminal elements.
