Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has authorized the promotion of 8,476 primary and junior secondary school teachers, a decision aimed at recognizing their dedication and improving the overall quality of education in the state.
Mrs. Onomen Goodness Briggs, Executive Chairman of the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), announced the promotions, which cover the period from 2022 to January 2024.
She emphasized that this initiative is expected to boost the morale of teachers, who have faced stagnation in career advancement for an extended period.
“Okpeholo’s proactive approach has breathed new life into the basic education sector. Our collaborative efforts are geared towards a comprehensive reform that prioritizes our educators and, ultimately, our students,” Briggs stated.
She noted that this significant action reflects Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to transforming the education sector and ensuring that previous administrative delays do not hinder progress.
“As his administration continues to roll out reforms, this directive serves as a clear indicator of his resolve to address systemic challenges and deliver tangible results within his first 100 days in office,” she added.
Briggs anticipates that the promotions will lead to increased job satisfaction among teachers, resulting in improved classroom outcomes and a more vibrant educational environment. With additional education reforms in the works, Governor Okpebholo remains dedicated to advancing the state’s educational landscape, ensuring that timely recognition and support for educators are prioritized.
