Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has expressed satisfaction with the impressive voter turnout recorded during the ongoing local government election across the state, describing it as a strong endorsement of his administration’s good governance.
The governor made the remark shortly after casting his vote at Ward 2, Udomi Primary School polling unit in Esan Central Local Government Area.
He arrived at the polling unit around 10:24 a.m., joined the queue with other voters, and exercised his civic responsibility at exactly 10:40 a.m.
Okpebholo commended the orderly conduct of voters and noted that feedback from various parts of the state indicated that the election was proceeding peacefully and smoothly.
“This election is very peaceful and it is going smoothly based on the feedback we are getting from the field. The turnout is very high. This is a demonstration of grassroots democracy,” he said.
The governor emphasised that the large number of people participating showed the citizens’ keen interest in selecting credible leaders to manage the affairs of their local governments. He expressed confidence that a winner would emerge at the end of the process.
He urged residents to maintain peace throughout the voting exercise and to await the official declaration of results by the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC).
The governor’s comments reflect the generally positive atmosphere reported at many polling units, with citizens demonstrating enthusiasm and commitment to the democratic process at the grassroots level.
