Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State on Wednesday inspected the rehabilitated 55km Benin-Iruekpen road, praising the project’s potential to significantly ease traffic flow for motorists and boost the local economy. The inspection focused on the stretch spanning from Aduwawa to Iruekpen and its surrounding areas.
The rehabilitated road, a crucial federal artery connecting to Okene in Kogi State and ultimately leading to Abuja, represents a significant infrastructure improvement.
Governor Okpebholo affirmed his administration’s dedication to addressing challenges on federal roads within Edo State, acknowledging their vital importance to the daily lives of Edo citizens. He also pledged continued collaboration with the Federal Government on future infrastructure projects.
“This road will significantly improve safety and dramatically reduce travel time,” Governor Okpebholo stated during the inspection. “What used to be a four-hour journey will now take approximately 45 minutes.”
The governor emphasized the project’s alignment with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, highlighting its positive impact on reducing transport costs and stimulating local economic activity.
“This project supports President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said, “which has helped to reduce transport costs and improve local economic conditions for our people.”
Beyond the Benin-Iruekpen road, Governor Okpebholo also assessed ongoing infrastructure projects across Benin City, including road construction in the Uteh and Oba Erediuwa areas. He further inspected flood management initiatives, notably a large-scale drainage system in Uteh Temboga designed to redirect floodwater into the Ikpoba River.
Addressing residents, Governor Okpebholo underscored his unwavering commitment to upgrading Edo State’s infrastructure to enhance the quality of life for its citizens. He also visited a gully erosion site in Temboga, where extensive remediation work has been undertaken to reclaim land lost to erosion.
“My work is to enhance the lives of the people who elected me,” Okpebholo stated, emphasizing his dedication and support from the President, who “regularly checks on Edo’s progress and development.”
Mr. Mohld Bajuwa, the project contractor, confirmed that the Benin-Iruekpen road was constructed utilizing high-quality materials and completed according to schedule, providing a long-lasting solution to address persistent traffic congestion along the route.
“The Benin-Iruekpen road was built with high-quality materials and completed on schedule, providing a durable solution for traffic congestion,” Bajuwa affirmed.
