Fibre Connectivity Across Edo 18 LGAs 97 Percent Completed, says Obaseki

Edo State is on the cusp of a digital revolution, with its fibre connectivity project nearing completion. Governor Godwin Obaseki announced that the initiative, which aims to connect all 18 local government areas, is approximately 97% complete.
“We’re building a robust digital foundation for Edo’s future,” Governor Obaseki stated. “This project will link local government offices, schools, and primary healthcare centers, enabling seamless digital services and telemedicine capabilities.”
The fibre connectivity project is a cornerstone of the state’s digital economy drive, aimed at boosting commerce and improving livelihoods. The initiative has already led to the introduction of 24-hour free WiFi services in various public places, including ministries, departments, and agencies.
Goodluck Igbinedion, Managing Director of Edo State ICTA, emphasized the project’s significance: “We’re creating a digital infrastructure and ICT hub to develop a knowledge economy, drive entrepreneurship, and enhance social well-being.”
Babatunde Faworot, representative of the Edo State Digital Transformation Project Team, provided an update on the project’s progress: “We’ve completed 97% of the civil works, laid over 500 kilometers of fibre cables, and begun installation in all local government areas. Our goal is to establish a thriving digital ecosystem across the state.”
The project’s completion is expected to have a profound impact on Edo State’s digital landscape, positioning it as a hub for innovation and economic growth.
