NSCDC Deploys 1,300 Personnel for Peaceful Conduct of Edo Local Government Election

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Edo State Command, has deployed a total of 1,300 personnel across the state’s three senatorial districts to provide robust security coverage for Saturday’s local government election.

The State Commandant, Mr. Saidi Akintayo, disclosed this on Wednesday in Benin through a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Efosa Ogbebor.

Akintayo assured residents that the corps has finalised all necessary security arrangements to ensure the election is conducted in a peaceful, free, and credible atmosphere.

He stated that the personnel would be strategically positioned before, during, and after the polls to safeguard lives and property, as well as critical national assets and infrastructure throughout the state.

The commandant urged political parties, candidates, their supporters, and all other stakeholders to strictly adhere to electoral laws and avoid any form of violence or malpractice. “The command also enjoins these stakeholders to shun violence and other forms of electoral malpractice, and conduct themselves peacefully throughout the exercise,” he emphasised.

Akintayo reaffirmed the NSCDC’s readiness to collaborate with other security agencies to maintain law and order before, during, and after the polls. He encouraged eligible voters to come out en masse and exercise their civic duty without fear, assuring them of adequate protection.
