The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Mr. Dennis Idahosa, on Sunday charged youths in the state to completely distance themselves from social vices such as cultism, kidnapping, drug abuse, internet fraud and other harmful practices.
Speaking at the 2026 Youth Harvest and Thanksgiving of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Benin, Idahosa described engagement in social vices as the greatest threat to the future of young people.
He stated that the state government, under Governor Monday Okpebholo, remains firmly committed to empowering youths through skills development, entrepreneurship, innovation, job creation and the promotion of a business-friendly environment. According to him, the administration’s vision is to raise a generation of young people who will become job creators, innovators and responsible leaders capable of driving the state’s development.
The deputy governor further advised youths to remain focused, embrace hard work, acquire useful skills and associate with people who will positively influence their lives.
“The decisions you make today will determine the tomorrow you inherit. Stay away from every activity that can undermine your God-given potential,” he said.
Idahosa later announced a N10 million donation on behalf of himself, his friends and the state governor in support of the church’s proposed building project. The donation was followed by separate cash and building material pledges from members of his entourage.
Earlier, the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Charles Omogiate, had appealed for support towards the ongoing building project in the parish.
The event provided a platform for the deputy governor to reinforce the government’s commitment to youth development while encouraging young people to make positive life choices.
